You can order non-fiction books and journal articles that we do not own via interlibrary loan. A library that owns the desired book will then make it available to us for a certain period of time.

Please note the following for interlibrary loans:

  • Interlibrary loan is subject to a fee. A successful order costs 3 euros.
  • The very latest books cannot be ordered because they are often not yet listed in the libraries.
  • Sometimes it takes a while for the delivery to arrive: interlibrary loan is not for those in a hurry!
  • Books that can still be bought in bookshops in an edition under 15 euros can often not be ordered via interlibrary loan.
  • Novels, children's books, dissertations, loose-leaf collections and non-book media are not available via interlibrary loan.
  • The library that makes the book available sets the conditions: how long you can keep the book, whether you can take it home with you or just read it in our library, whether you can make photocopies... We - and therefore you - must adhere strictly to these "rules", otherwise we risk being excluded from the German lending system. We only find out about these conditions when the book arrives at our premises.

You must take these steps:

  • You tell us exactly which book you need: Author's first and last name, title, place of publication (or publisher), year of publication, ISBN... For essays: Author of the essay, issue number, year, page numbers. Please use our online form.
  • We need the number of your user card, your telephone number and e-mail address.
  • A successful order costs 3 euros. There is also a processing fee of 1.50 euros for an unsuccessful order. The money is due when you collect the ordered book. In exceptional cases, e.g. if copies are ordered that are more than 20 pages long, the costs may be higher. When ordering, please indicate up to what amount you are prepared to pay.
  • If you receive the requested work and the loan period is not sufficient for you, please submit an extension request to us one week before the loan period expires.

This is what we do:

  • We try to place the order on the same day (the following day at the latest) - usually online.
Basically, we have no influence on the speed of delivery. Anything is possible: three days to three months. This depends on the frequency of the work, whether it is on loan, etc.
  • We will notify you as soon as the requested work or other information arrives.

Online interlibrary loan request form

On the first Tuesday of every new month, a member of staff from the public library will come to your home between 9 am and 12 noon. You can then borrow books there in peace and quiet and return books you have read.

In this way, the public library hopes to reach all those citizens of Hofheim with limited mobility who now find it too difficult to go to the public library.

All you need is a valid library card. There are no other additional costs.

If you are interested, please call 06192 / 202-570.
